More than 1.3 million Malaysians between the ages of 18 and 20 are registered on the electoral rolls in this year's 15th General Election. But, experts say it's still unclear how many people will turn out to vote. This is the first test to determine the validity of Undi18 in a nationwide poll.Political parties, according to analysts, must take advantage of the chance to draw the voters to the vote bank.
Prof . Dr. Nik Ahmad Kamal Nik Mahmod of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) said that youth voices are becoming louder since the reduction of the age of voting to 18 and that political parties have to draw them in.He also said that themes of idealism have always been popular for the vast majority of teenagers. So that playing with the idealism theme could win those who support it,he said.
Nik Ahmad said youths can be classified into different types, like those who do not care about elections in general, those who are first-time voters or party-supporters, as well as fence-sitters.A majority of the young voters are in the middle and seek out a political party with no controversies,he said.Dr Azmi Hassan who is a senior fellow at The Nusantara Academy of Strategic Research stated that the younger generation of voters are extremely vocal on social media, however the issue is how this will be a factor in their decision to cast a ballot.
According to him, it is vital that political organizations persuade voters to vote.He also warned that youngsters may be dissuaded by a person appears to be an "old face" that they may not connect with.Azmi added that it is crucial that political parties touch the issues that are popular with young people, like the prospects for careers, opportunities for employment homeownership, climate change.Environmental concerns are seldom discussed by candidates and parties, Azmi said.

Political analyst Dr Tunku Mohar Tunku Mohd Mokhtar of IIUM pointed out that the 1.3 million people who are registered under the Undi18 category is significant enough to impact the results of the elections. So far I haven't found any poll which can definitively estimate their political orientation.
This is a complex segment of voters who have an interest in primarily their studies at tertiary level or in the beginning of their professional careers,he said.Tunku Mohar stated that the voters could be a factor, particularly when it comes to "hot seat" previously won only marginally for the presidential candidate. He said that the political parties must be aware of the needs of young voters and expectations and then address them according to their needs.Having candidates who are able to be able to relate to these voters can aid in gaining their backing.
But those candidates need to appeal to different categories of voters as well,he added.Universiti Sains Malaysia senior lecturer Dr Azmil Mohd Tayeb has said that the young voters who are first-time voters cannot be considered to be the first vote bank because their voting patterns are uncertain. On the way that political parties can be appealing to those in the Undi18 category, Azmil said they should concentrate on issues that affect the bread and butter of life like student loans as well as job opportunities and the increasing cost of living as well as other issues.
As per the Election Commission, there are 1,393,549 persons aged between the ages of 18 to 20 who are on an electoral rolls of more than 21 million.Which reported by trusted online slot malaysia.
