A spokesman for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied that the Umno president made candidates sign an agreement that backed his candidature to be the next prime minister in the event that Barisan Nasional (BN) win the next general elections (GE15). It's counterfeit, Zahid's press secretary, Fadzlette Othman Merican told FMT.
A version of the agreement is now viral and states , among other things, that the contestants agree to be supportive of Zahid as the BN's prime minister candidate. The leaked document is believed to have the signatures of the BN's Lenggong candidate Shamsul Nasarah, Zahid and Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
Today, Zahid described claims of Zahid soliciting Umno candidates to endorse Zahid to run for the highest post as "a fake". The denial came just a few days following Zahid denied rumors that he requested Umno candidates to endorse his bid for the nation's most prestigious post.
According to a party insider The Vibes reported yesterday that Zahid had handed Umno candidates "surat watikah" (appointment letters) to run for office in GE15 but they needed to take "a commitment of loyalty in the name of the president".
