BN leaders downplay MIC’s possible withdrawal from GE15

A number of Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders have dismissed possible scenarios of one its party, MIC which is not participating in the general election on 15th April (GE15). Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil stated that the member was "no notion" on the issue.

BN released their list of candidates Tuesday night, but MIC officials and its President SA Vigneswaran, were absent at the announcement. The chairman of the coalition Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had named Vigneswaran as the coalition's nominee in the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat. Then, FMT reported that MIC leaders will meet on Wednesday to determine whether the party will be contesting GE15.

As per a news report from The Malaysian Insight, Vigneswaran stated that an emergency meeting will be held to determine if MIC would take or decline the seats it was offered or opt from GE15. Vigneswaran was reported to have said he would not like his party to be dragged further into the issue.

In the meantime, BN treasurer-general Hishammuddin Hussein stated that he did not think that what MIC did was an issue. That's not a major problem since Nov 5 is the day for nominations. Similar to (Sabah BN) the two parties have decided to announce their nominees within the next few days. So I believe it's appropriate for MIC to follow suit, he said.
